Details
The oldest of Treviso's current civic museum venues is also a fitting tribute to Abbot Luigi Bailo's extraordinary passion for collecting, which gave rise to the city's precious artistic, cultural and museum heritage.
Like the Museo di Santa Caterina, the Bailo Museum preserves the lights and atmosphere of the ancient convent of medieval origin, refounded in the 16th century by the Gesuati Fathers of S. Girolamo and passed in 1681 to the Carmelitani Scalzi. Atmospheres and traces of the ancient architecture also survive in the two sober cloisters overlooked by the ancient volume of the Scalzi Church, rebuilt after 1866 to house the Municipal Library.
A façade completely rethought in its elegant rigor, in dialogue with the urban fabric that welcomes it, invites us to enter and allow ourselves to be involved, leading us to learn about its many stories and important protagonists.
Today, the splendid Gallery of the Twentieth Century, with about 340 works from the second half of the nineteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century, welcomes visitors with masterpieces by the great Treviso artist Arturo Martini (Treviso1889 - Milan 1947), offering an extraordinary uniqueness of his poetics.
